Abortion advocates have filed lawsuits in the Constitutional Court of the nation of Columbia, seeking to have that Court declare that international law requires the legalization of abortion. Since Latin America, with the exception of Cuba, is strongly pro-life, they hope to use the Columbia case as a springboard to convincing courts throughout Latin America to throw out pro-life laws. Their tactic is to argue for "minor" liberalization for the "hard cases." FRC's Human Rights Counsel Bill Saunders filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of Columbia's anti-abortion laws.
