Identity politics has a firm hold on our culture and our politics, and its destructive grip seems to tighten every year. Why does this ideology have so much power today? Mary Eberstadt may have the answer. Eberstadt's new book, Primal Screams: How the Sexual Revolution Created Identity Politics, offers the profound thesis that the current pox of identity politics springs from the destruction of the family, which was where most Americans used to get their identity.

Mary Eberstadt is a Senior Fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Faith and Reason Institute. Mary is among America's most important social critics. Her books include Adam and Eve After the Pill, Home Alone America, It's Dangerous to Believe, How the West Really Lost God, and The Social Costs of Pornography, along with dozens of groundbreaking magazine pieces. Eberstadt wrote speeches for Secretary of State George Shultz and was a longtime Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institute. She is married to American Enterprise Institute author and scholar Nicholas Eberstadt.
