Family Research Council Thankful for Pres. Trump's Call for a National Day of Prayer

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement after President Trump’s proclamation was signed today that declares Sunday, September 3, 2017 a “National Day of Prayer for the Victims of Hurricane Harvey and for our National Response and Recovery Efforts."

“We are very thankful President Trump is calling the nation to prayer in response to the enormity of this disaster. The challenges facing our nation are far beyond anything we as a nation are capable of overcoming on our own. As a nation, we must acknowledge our need and dependence on God. We need leaders who recognize and understand the true source of our hope and strength.

“A Day of Prayer is a recognition that the only way America comes through all of these challenges is by the hand of God. Our nation’s problems are so vast and so complex that there can only be a God sized solution.

“Our nation’s history records these times of national prayer. The First Continental Congress called for a day of repentance, fasting, and prayer throughout the Colonies on July 20th, 1775 just after the War for Independence broke out. In following that example, we will join with President Trump in taking a day to seek God and pray for Him to bring restoration and healing to our nation.

“On Sunday, I will lead my own church in prayer, asking God to move in the hearts of people to bring about the unity that will enable our nation to stand and overcome. I pray the people of Texas and Louisiana will know that they aren’t alone.

“Together we must pray and then act upon those prayers. The Church must be a part of the solution and move the hand of God and then we will then see the results of those prayers,” concluded Perkins.
