Family Research Council to Host Karen Handel For Lecture Webcast on Susan G. Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council (FRC) will host Karen Handel, former vice president of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and former Georgia Secretary of State, for a lecture and panel discussion on the bullying of Komen by Planned Parenthood tomorrow, Thursday, December 13 at noon Eastern.
The lecture will provide an insider's account of what really happened when news leaked that Susan G. Komen for the Cure would stop contributing funds to Planned Parenthood , America 's largest abortion provider. The lecture will also cover the threats that Komen received from affiliates, corporate donors, media, and Congress over this issue.
Karen Handel served as Senior Vice President of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, but resigned in February 2012 following the foundation's controversial decisions to end, and then restore, funding for Planned Parenthood. She authored "Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure," an insider's account of how one of the most beloved American charities found itself the target of a vicious, orchestrated attack that threatened to run it out of business.
Following her lecture, Handel will be joined for a panel discussion by two distinguished speakers: Jeanne Monahan, President of the March for Life and author of the FRC publication, "America's Abortion Provider: What Everyone Should Know about Planned Parenthood," and Cathy Ruse, FRC's Senior Fellow for Legal Studies and formerly chief counsel, House U.S. Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution.
