WASHINGTON, April 17, 2018 – Today, Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Rep. Walker gave an update on the case of Andrew Brunson, a North Carolina native and American pastor imprisoned in Turkey. Pastor Brunson ran a Protestant church in the western city of Izmir and has been detained by Turkish authorities since October 2016. Following the pastor’s hearing on Monday, he will be sent back to prison and if convicted, he risks up to 35 years in prison.

Rep. Walker commented, "This needs to be in the forefront of every news media outlet, whatever your bias is, because this is an American citizen who has done nothing wrong.” Rep. Walker went on, “This is a complete travesty. We need to be on the front lines declaring that this man needs to be freed.”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, added, "This pastor… has been in the region for 23 years, serving the Mediterranean people. He said, ‘the only thing I do is I love the people of this country,’" concluded Perkins.
