Congress Defends Religious Freedom for the Troops
January 03, 2014: It was a rare and welcome victory for religious freedom for our all-volunteer military. Congress approved-and President Obama the day after Christmas signed-the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This new law contains stronger language than ever before that assures our service members do not have to give up their own freedoms while protecting ours.
Moving U.S. Embassies: Vatican City? Jerusalem?
December 19, 2013: The Obama administration is at pains to tamp down the latest controversy on the diplomatic front. They are planning to move the U.S. Embassy to the Vatican. They want it to be close to the United States Embassy to Italy, which is located in Italy's capital, Rome.
The Obama 'Selfie' in South Africa
December 12, 2013: President Obama is receiving plenty of criticism for his selfie cellphone portrait at the funeral of South Africa's revered leader, Nelson Mandela. What the president had to say in tribute to Africa's greatest statesman was largely overshadowed by the press pictures of Obama, Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark's shapely blonde chief of government, Helle Thorning Schmidt. A Necessary Lesson for Dems
December 11, 2013: A new book by historian James Oakes comes just in time. Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861-1865 brings us an important new interpretation for the crucial events of our American Civil War. Focusing less on the battles of that most deadly of conflicts, this book goes behind the scenes to show what Congress was doing, what Union commanders in the field were doing, and what abolitionists and the slaves themselves were doing to bring about what Lincoln poetically called "this great consummation."
Responsible Gun Ownership is as American as the NFL
December 08, 2013: It's a sad commentary on how much sway an urban elitist mentality must have within the NFL that Bob Costas can give an anti-gun diatribe for free, while the NFL and networks happily take money for ads telling people to drink alcohol and take drugs to help them have more sex, but a firearms business cannot pay to run an ad encouraging men and women to consider how to defend their families.
High Oil Prices Taxing American Families--But There's A Solution
November 25, 2013: At the beginning of this year, many Americans opened their paychecks to find that their take-home pay was suddenly less than it had been the previous month. The payroll tax cut had expired, resulting in the average American worker owing an additional $700 in payroll taxes this year compared to last.
'Salvation is from the Jews' -- Even in a Worldly Sense
November 14, 2013: Christians are certainly familiar with Jesus' words to the woman at the well. "Salvation is from the Jews," he tells her in John 4:22. And this has always stood as a stumbling block to anti-Semitism in the Church. It is hard to imagine how one can be a true Christian and be an anti-Semite, too.
