by Peter Sprigg and Travis Weber

September 11, 2014: On July 21, 2014, President Obama signed an Executive Order to prohibit discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" by federal contractors, and to prohibit discrimination against federal employees based on "gender identity" ("sexual orientation" had already been included as a protected category in federal employment by President Clinton).

  • Ex-Gay Therapy Debate: The Truth Matters

    by Peter Sprigg

August 27, 2014: The fact that some people change their sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual (some as a result of professional therapy) is a problem for the homosexual movement. It seriously undermines the myth that homosexuality is a characteristic like race, which people are born with and can never change.

  • Appeals Court Should Correct Judge Friedman's Botched Social Science

    by Peter Sprigg

August 06, 2014: The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit that oversees Michigan will hear oral arguments this week regarding a series of decisions striking down state laws that define marriage as the union of a man and a woman, preventing recognition of same-sex "marriages" from other states, or both. The most interesting may be DeBoer v. Snyder, in which Judge Bernard A. Friedman ruled the Michigan Marriage Amendment unconstitutional.

  • If Marriage Is Not About Procreation, Why Is It About Sex?

    by Peter Sprigg

July 22, 2014: In the court cases which have upheld the one-man-one-woman definition of marriage (yes, there have been many, though not in the last year), the "rational basis" that judges have found for the laws has been the state's interest in promoting "responsible procreation."

  • Marriage, Polygamy, and Religious Liberty

by Peter Sprigg and Travis Weber

April 17, 2014: For over a decade, conservatives have made "slippery slope" arguments that redefining marriage to include homosexual couples would inevitably open the door for further redefinitions of marriage - including the legalization of polygamy. Most who advocate legal recognition of same-sex unions have adamantly denied such a link. However, some on the left have been more honest-such as the academics and other luminaries who signed a 2006 manifesto, "Beyond Same-Sex Marriage." The manifesto endorsed legal recognition of, among other things, "Committed, loving households in which there is more than one conjugal partner."
