Help Soldier who was punished after serving Chick-fil-A in Support of DOMA

In the latest episode of what is nothing less than a mushrooming scandal of religious hostility in the military, Army Master Sergeant Nathan Sommers was given a negative efficiency report after sending personal invitations to his promotion party. In the invitations, he said he would be serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches "in honor of the Defense of Marriage Act." A negative efficiency report typically puts an end to any further promotions.

One day after this incident was made public, the chain of command announced charges against this soldier on unrelated issues. Over my 36 years in the U.S. Army, I saw numerous situations like this where a soldier is singled out by the chain of command for punishment. I have little doubt that the chain of command would not be pursuing Article 15 charges if it were not for the Sergeant's outspoken Christian faith and his unwillingness to compromise what he believes.

Unfortunately, this type of intimidation has become commonplace within our armed forces. When a painting displaying a Scripture reference can be summarily removed from a Air Force mess hall in less than an hour following a complaint by an anti-Christian activist, something is seriously wrong. Last month, the Air Force removed a chaplains' video because it contained the word "God." These are only samples of the almost daily reports that I receive involving the violation ... (more)

The New Axis

By Ken Blackwell and Robert Morrison

This article appeared in The American Thinker on June 10, 2013.

Mikey Weinstein and his militant atheizers in MRFF (the so-called Military Religious Freedom Foundation) are boasting of their ability to crush any outbreak of Christian expression in the military. Mikey and MRFF proudly call CAIR their "allies." CAIR is the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

CAIR, as the former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy has noted, has close ties to Hamas. [The Grand Jihad, by Andrew C. McCarthy, p. 160.] Hamas is the Palestinian branch of the international jihadist group, the Muslim Brotherhood. These ties were exposed in the Holy Land Foundation trial in which, McCarthy informs us, CAIR was named by the federal government as an unindicted co-conspirator. Together, these atheizers are joining with jihadists to form a New Axis.

Anna Higgins is Director, Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council. This article appeared in The Washington Times on June 12, 2013. Late Monday evening, the Justice Department announced that it would withdraw its appeal of a ruling by federal Judge Edward Korman of the Eastern District of New York mandating universal, over-the-counter access to the morning-after pill. The drug will be made available to girls of any age. The drug at the center of this controversy is levonorgestrel, commonly known as "Plan B," which, according ... (more)

'Interim Report' on Australian Study of Homosexual Parents Adds Little to Debate

by Peter Sprigg

Peter Sprigg is Senior Fellow for Policy Studies at Family Research Council. This article appeared in The Christian Post on June 7, 2013. I recently returned from the World Congress of Families in Sydney, Australia, where my colleague Dr. Patrick Fagan, director of Family Research Council's Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI), was a keynote speaker. Australia has been facing many of the same struggles over social issues as the United States, including an effort by homosexual activists to redefine marriage - and now, their own ... (more)

Some Thoughts on Responding to Pop Culture: The Need for Holiness and Engagement

by Rob Schwarzwalder

Rob Schwarzwalder is Senior Vice President at Family Research Council. This article appeared on Religion Today, June 13, 2013. Railing against popular culture is as common among conservatives as asphalt is on the highway. Yet righteous indignation and wounded outrage, while understandable, justified and sometimes necessary, by themselves are insufficient responses to the society around us. Many Christians have sought proactively to respond to a culture whose major feature is a pandemic of moral erosion. In the arts and the media, efforts ... (more)
