FRC to Host Panel on Understanding, Avoiding College Debt

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Thursday, September 27, at noon, Family Research Council will host economic researcher Dr. Andrew J. Gillen, and financial counselor Sophia Ephraim for a panel discussion on the topic of college debt. The panel, entitled "Save Me from College Debt: Understanding and Avoiding the College Debt Tsunami," will discuss how public policy and personal financial planning can help students fund their college education. The event will be moderated by Chris Gacek, Ph.D., J.D., Family Research Council's Senior Fellow on Regulatory Policy.

Dr. Andrew J. Gillen is the Senior Researcher at American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA). He received a B.B.A. from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in economics from Florida State University. Prior to joining ACTA, Dr. Gillen was the Research Director at the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, where he focused on financial aid and accreditation policy. He is also an adjunct professor of economics at Johns Hopkins University.

Sophia Ephraim is a Dave Ramsey Certified Financial Counselor and founder of Haven Financial Counseling Services (HavenFCS). Ephraim received her training from The Lampo Group, Inc. in Brentwood, TN and has counseled numerous clients regarding recovery from college debt. Before founding HavenFCS, Ephraim worked with a major telecommunications company as an Installation Technician for thirteen years.

Dr. Chris Gacek is the Senior Fellow, Regulatory Affairs at Family Research Council. Dr. Gacek received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. from Stanford University (political science), and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
