For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 2:5

Dear Praying Friends,

Joseph Story (1779-1845) was in appointed by President James Madison to the U.S. Supreme Court. At age 32, having served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Story was the youngest justice ever to be appointed. In 1827, while a sitting Justice, he became Chairman of Harvard Law School and led the fledgling institution to become the world's most prestigious Law School. Story died in office after 34 years, but his writings, especially his Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), became the cornerstone of legal philosophy throughout the 19th Century. In the Court's unanimous 1844 opinion in Vidal v. Girard's Executors, Story affirmed what was universally acknowledged until late in the 20th Century, that America is a Christian nation. Story wrote:

The real object of the First Amendment was, not to countenance, much less to advance Mahometanism (sic), or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among Christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to an hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government. It thus cut off the means of religious persecution, (the vice and pest of former ages,) and of the subversion of the rights of conscience in matters of religion, which had been trampled upon almost from the days of the Apostles to the present age. The history of the parent country had afforded the most solemn warnings and melancholy instructions on this head; and even New England, the land of the persecuted puritans, as well as other colonies, where the Church of England had maintained its superiority, would furnish out a chapter, as full of the darkest bigotry and intolerance, as any, which should be found to disgrace the pages of foreign annals. Apostasy, heresy, and nonconformity had been standard crimes for public appeals, to kindle the flames of persecution, and apologize for the most atrocious triumphs over innocence and virtue... The Catholic and the Protestant, the Calvinist and the Arminian, the Jew and the Infidel, may sit down at the common table of the national councils, without any inquisition into their faith, or mode of worship...

Why may not the Bible, and especially the New Testament, without note or comment, be read and taught as a Divine Revelation in the [school] - its general precepts expounded, its evidences explained and its glorious principles of morality inculcated? ...

Where can the purest principles of morality be learned so clearly or so perfectly as from the New Testament? (see Text of Court Decision); also Dr. Kenyn Cureton, Lost Episodes in American History).

Well into the 20th Century our leaders called America a Christian nation. Today, they've removed the Bible from our schools. Bible-believing Americans must engage in extraordinary prayer and boldly stand for Jesus, righteousness and religious liberty!

Call2Fall - Churches and individuals from across the country joined us to observe Call2Fall 2014. Heartfelt prayers were offered, God's real presence was felt and tremendous peace accompanied the times of prayer. Congregations large and small, men and women, boys and girls, humbled themselves on bended knee on Sunday. Thanks be to God! To the pastors, ministry friends and prayer partners who spread the word: Thanks to each of you! Let's now support other worthy prayer efforts! Only national repentance and awakening will stop the rebellion against Almighty God that is underway in America today. The great peace many churches experienced after Call2Fall, suggests that God is not finished with us yet!

  • Thank God for the privilege we had to kneel before him in corporate prayer. May we continue! (Lev 26:40-42;1 Kg 6:12; 2 Chr 7:14b; Joel 2:18; Acts 3:19-21)

Hobby Lobby Victory - On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties, ruling that closely held family corporations are protected under the Religious Freedom Reformation Act (RFRA) and the federal government cannot compel them, under the Affordable Care Act, to provide their employees with insurance that covers contraceptives that produce abortions in some instances. The 5-4 opinion was a blow for the Obama administration, who planned to force owners of these businesses to violate their religious convictions under threat of huge, unbearable fines. Senate Democrats vow to "fix" this loss through legislation. Now the Little Sisters of the Poor, Eternal Word Television Network and 98 other religious non-profit ministries and for-profit businesses that have sued the HHS will continue to defend their faith in the lower courts, but with a Supreme Court decision that will help them (see Momentous Victory; ADF; Triumph for Liberty, Information Central; Did the Court Go Far Enough?; Good, Bad, Ugly).

  • Praise God for hearing our prayers, for the Court upholding religious liberty and for protecting us from very real tyranny. May He contend on behalf of the other organizations and their court challenges (1 Chr 29:11; Ps 30:10-12; Pr 24:11-12; Is 58: all; Lk 4:18)!

Anne Graham Lotz's Urgent Call to Prayer - 777 - Daughter of Evangelist Billy Graham, Bible teacher Anne Graham Lotz has issued an urgent call to prayer, responding in obedience to the Lord. The prayer and repentance initiative, called 777, calls us to Pray! In the 7th month of July, we are called to Pray! On each of the first seven days of July (beginning yesterday), we need to Pray! On Monday, July 7th for seven hours of your choosing, accompany that 7th day of prayer with a Fast! (visit Urgent Call to Prayer; Hear Anne's Appeal).

  • May those who observed Call2Fall, take advantage of this opportunity, and may prayer with fasting continue! (2 Chr 7:14; Lk 18:1 ff; 6:10-20; 1 Th 5:17)

Veterans Scandal; News Black-out - Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) is epidemic and 22 veterans take their own lives every day. The Veterans Administration is the agency entrusted to care for them. Yet in May we learned that the VA has been systemically hiding its failure to care for medically desperate vets, who appear on long lists secretly intended to go without care. Hoping to cure the scandal, President Obama has replaced VA Secretary Eric Shinseki with Proctor & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald (see News Blackout; 22 Vets Each Day; New VA Chief; WSJ Video; Reform Needed Now; Can new Chief stem Bleeding?)

  • May Americans take up this cause to make sure our vets are honored and cared for! (2 Sam 23:16; Is 40:31; 58:all; Mt 25:40; Rom 13:7l; Gal 6:9-10; Eph 5: 11-13)

Finally, please be praying for: The families of the three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped and killed by Palestinians (likely Hamas). Pray for the Israeli and U.S. governments and their response. Pray for President Obama that God would grant him and our military leaders guidance regarding the new terrorist state ISIS, whose army has reached the borders of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey. Pray for Meriam Ibrahim and her family. Reportedly, the final paperwork is being done and she will be coming to America. Let us hold this family up until they are safe in the U.S. Pray for the leadership and people of Kentucky to rise up and prevail over the federal judge who struck down their Marriage Law, saying those who believe in natural marriage are "not serious people." Thank you for praying!
