WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across Louisiana and the country. On the show, AG Landry shared his thoughts on President Trump's nomination of Kyle Duncan for the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

In the interview AG Landry explained the need for a judge who will uphold the Constitution and protect religious liberty, "I think that many people out there in America, certainly those listening in today, recognize that a lot of the ills that are plaguing our country are coming from activist judges, in where we have basically diverted from courts saying what the law is to basically saying what the law ought to be.

"With all the assaults that have been placed on religious liberty, especially, unfortunately, Christians seem to be targeted in a country that was founded on Judea-Christian principles. To have people that understand and appreciate the text of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the applicability of those amendments, especially the First Amendment, understanding that ‘the separation of Church and State’ is simply a metaphor created in the 1900s under, again, an activist Supreme Court. We want people to understand that the foundation of this country is our Constitution and that religious liberty is at the basis of the foundation of our country," added AG Landry.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, added, "What we’ve seen with Kyle Duncan is that he’s sharp. He’s had some tremendous experiences as the general counsel of the Becket Fund, which is a religious liberty entity in Washington that takes a lot of these religious liberty cases. He oversaw the successful Hobby Lobby challenge to the HHS mandate and this was a huge case especially as it relates to religious liberty.

“He has shown himself to be one who can clearly defend and articulate the significance of our Constitution and our constitutional rights… John Kennedy, senator from Louisiana, has been opposing a number of the President’s picks, including Kyle Duncan. I think he needs to hear from folks, especially those folks in Louisiana." concluded Perkins.
