WASHINGTON, March 31, 2017 –  Yesterday, former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Pat McCrory discussed the repeal of House Bill 2 in the North Carolina General Assembly yesterday. The repeal bill, H.B. 142, essentially keeps the same content as H.B. 2, but puts the issue on hold until December of 2020. Pat McCrory was a supporter of the repeal bill, but the Left, who asked for the repeal, were livid that it passed.

Pat McCrory commented on the Left’s ultimate loss with the passing of the repeal yesterday, " The good news is this: the HRC lost the battle. And with their resources and power and money, and their trying to get some other corporations to help support them in the battle that they lost, the usual players out in California, the fact of the matter is, they did not get a full repeal of HB2. They do not have the power at the local level to change the definition of gender, which is really what it comes down to. Are we going to change the definition of gender or not? And that shouldn’t be a decision made by a mayor or a governor or by the NCAA. That’s not their right to make the decision.”

Pat McCrorywent on to share his thoughts on where the gender debate will ultimately reach a conclusion, “This is going to end up going to the Supreme Court, and hopefully with a new Supreme Court justice that’s been nominated by President Trump, there will be a ruling in which we keep the definition of gender as we’ve been using in the 1964 Civil Rights Act for generations. And I think that’s where this is going to resolve.”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, added, "I think we see a division now between the LGBTQ agitators and the businesses that they’ve had on strings like a puppet, that apparently businesses are waking up to the fact that they can never satisfy this constituency," concluded Perkins.
