Stop the Federal Government from Religious Discrimination

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges, requiring states to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples. Then, not even a week later, on July 2, 2015, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries ordered Sweet Cakes by Melissa to pay a lesbian couple $135,000 because Melissa declined to bake them a wedding cake.

With some state government agencies and officials already penalizing people for their moral and religious convictions defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, there are now calls to revoke the tax exempt status of organizations that support natural marriage, and for the federal government to otherwise penalize natural marriage supporters. It is imperative Congress pass legislation that prevents activists in the federal government from discriminating against pro-family individuals and favoring the agenda of liberal activists over religious liberty.

Liberal activists are already attacking the First Amendment Defense Act with false allegations regarding its purpose and effect and Congress needs to know you support legislation that protects the first freedom of all Americans, the freedom to believe and live according to those beliefs. Liberal activists falsely claim the First Amendment Defense Act allows federal employees to refuse to do their jobs, for example, by refusing to issue passports to same-sex ... (more)

Supreme Court's Marriage Ruling is Shocking Abuse of Power, Will Never Be Accepted

Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins responded today to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision forcing the people in all 50 states to embrace same-sex “marriage,”  regardless of their votes to define marriage in their states as a man-woman institution.

Of the decision FRC President Tony Perkins said:

"Five justices on the Supreme Court have overturned the votes of 50 million Americans and demanded that the American people walk away from millennia of history and the reality of human nature.

“In reaching a decision so lacking in foundation in the text of the Constitution, in our history, and in our traditions, the Court has done serious damage to its own legitimacy.

“No court can overturn natural law.  Nature and Nature’s God, hailed by the signers of our Declaration of Independence as the very source of law, cannot be usurped by the edict of a court, even the United States Supreme Court.

by Ken Blackwell

Ken Blackwell is Senior Fellow for Family Empowerment at Family Research Council. This article appeared in The American Thinker on July 24, 2015. Planned Parenthood pays no taxes. Under President Obama, made more than $500 million in profits, but they claim to be a “non-profit” organization. They kill more 800 children every day. And they have from the earliest days targeted minority women. They once had a “Negro Ministers” project designed to recruit black pastors to push first birth control and then abortion in ... (more)

On Clear Biblical Teaching, Non-Essentials and Homosexuality

by Rob Schwarzwalder

Rob Schwarzwalder is Senior Vice President at Family Research Council. This article appeared on The Stream on July 17, 2015. Christians disagree about many things, some more important than others. Among Evangelical Protestants, there is universal concurrence on the core issues of the faith. The key aspects of our theology are well-expressed in the historic Lausanne Covenant, for example. On secondary issues, disputes begin. The covenantal versus dispensational hermeneutic, eschatology, whether or not to drink alcohol, head-coverings ... (more)

President Obama: Out of (Touch with) Africa

by Ken Blackwell and Rob Schwarzwalder

Ken Blackwell is Senior Fellow for Family Empowerment and Rob Schwarzwalder is Senior Vice President at Family Research Council. This article appeared in The Stream on July 29, 2015. President Obama’s sentimental journey to East Africa should have been a harmonious one. He used the occasion of a toast to Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta to joke about his own search for his birth certificate. The usual round of VIP visits and dinners were marred, however, by this president’s insistence on pushing his radical social agenda ... (more)
