Dems Look for Health Care Antidote
ObamaCare may be fine for the rest of America, but don't expect Congress to enroll anytime soon! According to Politico, members are trying to wiggle out of the coverage that they're required to join as part of the health care law. The talks, which sources say are highly secretive, focus on exemptions for the 535 members of Congress and their staffs.
For Democrats, who insisted on forcing America into the program, a waiver would be political suicide. After three years of hyping ObamaCare, dropping out of the insurance exchanges would expose the Left's hypocrisy like a hospital gown! "By removing themselves from the [program]," Politico points out, "lawmakers would be held to a different standard than the people who put them in office."
Apparently, Congress's gripe is the same as taxpayers': ObamaCare raises--not lowers--costs. Maybe Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) didn't need to know "what's in it" because she just planned to get exempted from it! But she and every other Democratic official should reap exactly what their disastrous bill has sown. As our good friend Brent Bozell said, "This is what Third World dictators and tyrannical kings do--they create mandates for the supposed 'good' of the peasants, while exempting themselves from the burdens of their whims.
Our message is clear: stop these secret meetings immediately and get to work defunding and repealing ObamaCare so everyone--not just you and your staff--can be freed from its burdens." The story was denied on Capitol Hill as Speaker Boehner tweeted out, "We're not sneaking any language into bills to solve the Dems' #hrc problem," he tweeted. "The solution to this & other ObamaCare nightmares is #fullrepeal."
Only former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) admitted these covert talks were going on. The problem is the original bill contradicts itself on the question of whether Congress is exempt or not. If the bill is that confusing to the people voted on it, imagine the confusion awaiting lowly citizens who have no choice but to comply or be fined! Speaking of selective enforcement of U.S. laws, it looks like President Obama is shielding ObamaCare from the sequester's "across-the-board" cuts. While he insists he can't do anything about the White House tours or airport delays, the President can and is stopping his health care bureaucrats from being furloughed during sequestration. So much for the White House's claim that it isn't playing politics with the spending cuts!
Watch Leo the Hero in Action!
After eight months, FRC was finally hoping to bring some closure to the terrible shooting of August 15. Unfortunately for Leo Johnson and the rest of our staff, that closure will have to wait. The defense attorney for gunman Floyd Corkins, who was probably hoping to put some distance between his client and the most recent act of domestic terrorism--the Boston bombings--asked to delay the proceedings. In the meantime, the FBI has submitted its final evidence package to the court, which includes the security footage from the lobby that day--and Leo's heroic actions in thwarting a shooter bent on killing everyone in our office. We've included the video below, along with a clip of Corkins's interrogation, in which he admits to targeting FRC after finding us on the Southern Poverty Law Center's website. Leo's courage saved countless lives that day. As he recovers from his second surgery, we continue to thank God for his hand of protection--on Leo and the rest of a very grateful FRC staff.
