When I was a little girl, my mom and grandma would volunteer to go into prisons and cook meals for the incarcerated. They would tell me and my brother stories of these experiences. I remember my grandma saying, "I was never afraid. They are just people. God loves them, and they need Jesus." The heart of the gospel is freedom. We all were captives until Jesus released us from the darkness of sin and its penalty of death. Our own freedom from darkness should stir us to compassion for the criminal who faces physical captivity as well as spiritual captivity.

Some people are so intoxicated with their own self-importance and totalitarian transcendence of their own niche worldview that the only treatment is a cold, clear draft of reality. This trap snares not only Washington politicians (and their relatives) but often ordinary people working ordinary jobs - just ask the J6 defendants. Following the publication of a damning report on the dangers of gender transition procedures for children, Scotland is officially halting the prescription of puberty blockers and hormone drugs to minors. Scotland's sole gender for clinic for minors, the Glasgow-based Sandyford Sexual Health Service (SSHS), officially announced on Thursday that it will no longer be referring children under the age of 18 to pediatric endocrinology to be prescribed puberty blockers or hormone drugs.

The Sunshine State is now welcoming chaplains into public schools, but Satanists need not apply. On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill into law allowing chaplains to volunteer to offer counseling at public and charter schools. However, the Catholic governor warned that Satanists would not be accepted into the program, as some Christian and conservative groups had feared.

The World Health Assembly plans to meet on May 27 to hammer out final amendments and details of the World Health Organization Pandemic Agreement. In its present form, the WHO Pandemic Agreement would empower greater censorship of disfavored viewpoints, redistribute 20% of all U.S. "pandemic-related products" to other nations, aims to create equity-driven national health care systems around the globe, and allows "no reservations" by signatory nations. 

This week, the British Government's Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer dove into the males in female sports controversy when she made the argument that biological males have an "indisputable edge" over female athletes, concluding that male athletes who identify as transgender should be prohibited from "competing in top-level female sports events," Breitbart reported. The biological differences between men and women "not only give transgender women an unfair competitive advantage," Frazer wrote for The Daily Mail, "but threaten the safety of female athletes in the sports arena."

Days after his face appeared on Bud Light cans - the controversy that launched a thousand boycotts - the sight of him doing jumping jacks in women's workout gear was almost worst. And a stock chart that looks like a downhill ski slope proves it. Months after the country protested with a bonfire of bra burning, the only swoosh Nike hears now is the sound of profits gushing. 

Americans woke up to plenty of terrifying headlines Sunday after Iran lobbed more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel. "The world stands at the brink of an all-out war," The Telegraph insisted. Columbian President Gustavo Petro publicly despaired, calling the weekend's attack "a prelude to World War III." Here at home, President Joe Biden continued to walk a political tightrope, declaring his "ironclad commitment to the security of Israel," while privately urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to suck it up and take whatever Iran dishes out.

Even under the best of circumstances, sitting in the pressure cooker of the House speakership was never something Mike Johnson (R-La.) wanted. "This was not a job that I aspired to, Tony," he told Family Research Council's president during Saturday's interview. But ironically, it's a job his own party seems determined to take from him.
