Forget Little Rock--Arkansas just became a solid rock in the pro-life movement. Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. Arkansas is officially the safest state in America--to be a baby. Thanks to a legislature that wouldn't quit, the Land of Opportunity State became exactly that for the pro-life movement. After an uphill battle that included two Governor's vetoes, Arkansas is celebrating a pair of major milestones. The first is a popular fetal pain law that blocks abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy. Governor Mike Beebe vetoed it the first time around, but it was state leaders who had the final say. They overrode the Governor and went right to work on America's first "heartbeat bill." Governor Beebe vetoed that too after it passed, but state leaders didn't give up. They held a second vote, rallied the majority, and won another abortion ban--this one at 12 weeks, when doctors can find the baby's pulse. Congratulations to Arkansas for making history--and saving countless lives in the process!
