The good news is that Nancy Pelosi wants to balance the budget. The bad news is that she's in no hurry! Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. According to the House Minority Leader, America doesn't have a spending problem--and at $16 trillion in the hole, it doesn't have a debt problem either. "...I believe that we're on a path to reduce the deficit," Pelosi said. "And I would say that--count me as one who would say I want us to be on a path to balance the budget in a number of decades." Eliminating the deficit is possible, she said, but "you can't do it in one decade. Not after what we've been through." What about all that taxpayers have been through? They've watched Congress kiss goodbye billions of their dollars on everything from Jello-wrestling to outer-space food tastings. Americans don't want to "ease into" deficit reduction--they want Congress do what most families have been doing all along: budget responsibly. And the sooner they do it, the better!
