In This Congress, You Ain't Seen Nothing YetPeople are starting to use an f-word to describe Congress: "futile!" Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta ignore it! That seems to be the view in Congress, where leaders just wrapped up the least productive year on record. According to the Washington Times, no Congress is modern history has passed fewer bills than this one. Of the thousands of measures that are introduced every year, only 80 survived. And barely any of them made any progress on spending, unemployment, or government waste. To measure futility, reporters looked at everything from the number of floor votes to the time in session. While the House held more floor votes than any Congress but three, the Senate broke new records for doing nothing. It's been 1,000 days since they passed a budget, and there's no sign the Senate will be considering one any time soon. One thing's for sure. If Congress won't make the tough decisions to put America on track, voters won't hesitate to! |
