You've heard of being shell shocked -- well, liberals are getting cell shocked! Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. If money talks, then science is listening. After a 20-year war over stem cells, states aren't just waving the white flag -- they're waving big checks for ethical research. In the hunt for cures, adult stem cells are lapping the competition. While embryonic stem cells struggle to make an impact, their adult counterparts are already treating everything from heart disease to leukemia. The science is moving so fast that donors are racing to catch up. In California and Maryland, two of the most liberal states, stem cell funding is overwhelmingly shifting to research that doesn't destroy human embryos. Why? Because it actually works! FRC has been fighting for years to give adult stem cells the attention they deserve. "It's all about developing effective treatments," one expert said. And saving lives, which these therapies do -- on both sides of the process.
