One Small Step for Man, One Giant Bleep for MankindNetwork television is defending an f-word-and it's not family! Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. If you thought TV was pushing the envelope now, hang on to your remotes. The Supreme Court is hearing a case that could send parents diving for the channel changer! Ten years after Cher used the f-word on live TV, broadcasters are still fighting to turn programming into an uncensored free-for-all. They think "free speech" entitles them to use as much nudity and profanity as they want. And if the Court agrees, it could blow the doors open to 24 hours of R-rated TV. The networks want parents to censor the flow of filth in their homes. But that's like saying it's okay to poison the water supply and leave parents responsible for filtering the kitchen faucet. These days, it's impossible to protect kids with the regulations in place! Who knows how much obscenity there'd be if networks make the rules? If the court sides with Hollywood, you can bet more families will be swearing off television! |
