The idea that liberals weren't buying votes with the Obama Phone is ringing hollow now. Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. The only thing Obama Phones are dialing into is the government's mismanagement! According to the Wall Street Journal, the program that made election headlines is full of fraud. Instead of giving cell phones to low-income folks, it looks like Lifeline has been a hotline for anyone who wants it. Of the six million subscribers, 41% were never eligible for free phones in the first place. They were just taking advantage of the system--and taxpayers. That makes sense to Nicole Torres, who helped sign up customers. From time to time, she said, people would drive over in a Hummer or Mercedes. "They get in the back of line, they produce their...Nevada ID, [and] get a free phone." No wonder taxpayers forked over $2.2 billion for phones last year! The program was a total scam! It's time the government took the Obama Phone and called it quits.
