The budget cuts may have hurt some of the Pentagon's priorities, but its campaign against religious liberty wasn't one of them. Hi, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. What do Christian ministries have in common with al-Qaeda? Absolutely nothing, but you'll have a tough time persuading the Army of that. Earlier this month, at a training session in Camp Shelby, soldiers were told that the AFA was a hate group on par with the KKK. A soldier was so shocked that he snapped a picture of the PowerPoint slide and sent it to Fox News. The Army tried to backtrack, saying the presentation "wasn't approved by Army leaders." Unfortunately, the damage has already been done. "I donate to AFA as often as I can," said one soldier. "Am I going to be punished?" Obviously, the Obama administration wants to separate the military from one of the few things coming to their defense: faith-based groups. But if this latest flap is any indication, that's easier said than done.
