The only thing brewing at Boston Beer Company is controversy. Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. Political correctness is the only thing on tap at Samuel Adams. The beer brand is one of the country's oldest--and, until recently, one of its most patriotic. That all changed this month when the brewery decided to rewrite the Declaration of Independence that Sam Adams helped author! In a new ad, the company quotes the line about all men being "endowed with certain unalienable rights"--but the phrase "by their Creator" never appears. Owners defended the decision as part of the industry's advertising code. But here's the irony. By separating faith from public life, writes Jordan Ballor, "Sam Adams the beer company has done something that Sam Adams himself would never have stood for." This week, people were so angry that they've started declaring their independence from the Boston Beer Company. And if executives want to stop that boycott, they'd better sober up and acknowledge God!
