Most Americans don't go sit around worrying about STDs. But after the latest report, maybe they should. Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. The worst health crisis in America may be the one no one's talking about. A monster strain of gonorrhea is spreading, and experts say it might be worse than AIDS. It's a "superbug," doctors explain, that's totally resistant to antibiotics. But if it's such an emergency, why aren't more people doing something about it? Well, for the same reason they aren't teaching abstinence to kids. Because it gets in the way of our culture's "if it feels good do it" mentality. The only way to avoid gonorrhea is to coach people to stop engaging in premarital sex. And no one wants to do that because it would mean frowning on promiscuity. Pop culture tells us to pursue satisfaction at any cost. Even when that cost is $16 billion a year in treatments! Well, it's time to learn some self-control--or we'll be here today and gonorrhea tomorrow!
