They say that youth is wasted on the young, but thank goodness leadership isn't! Hello, I'm Tony Perkins with the Family Research Council in Washington. When Saira Blair ran for the State House in May, one vote she couldn't count on is her own! That's because Saira is a 17-year-old high school student -- who just happens to have knocked off an incumbent quadruple her age! In her campaign, Blair described herself as "fiscally conservative," "pro-life," "pro-family," "pro-marriage," and "pro-jobs." And apparently, pro-active! The new graduate is one election away from becoming "the youngest state lawmaker in [state] history." Asked how she won her primary on a $5,000 budget, Blair said, "People saw that you don't need to wait until you are 40, 50, or 60 to realize our conservative principles are beneficial to everyone." Quite frankly, her 67-year-old competition told the media, "she out-campaigned me." Regardless of what happens in November, it's nice to see students engaged in the political process. This young blood is just what conservatives need!
