Three-parent embryos. Sounds like science fiction, but it's not. Hello, this is Tony Perkins with the Family Research Council in Washington. British doctors want to use a modified form of human cloning to create embryos who have THREE parents-2 mothers and one father. And the British government is going along! As usual, those who peddle human manipulation claim they would be treating a terrible disease. In this case a genetic disease of what are called "mitochondria", the energy factories inside every cell, which are all inherited from our moms. But while this sounds like compassionate medicine, the chilling fact is that no one is treated; instead, embryos are manufactured in the lab by genetic manipulation, combining parts of eggs from two different women with sperm. In a second proposed technique, two embryos are destroyed and their parts recombined to make a third, new embryo, again with the genetics of two women and one man. Now the FDA is thinking of bringing this Brave New World to America. We need to stop and remember, children are a gift, not a commodity to be manufactured.
