TV Goes From Bed to WorseThe people who say "cheaters never prosper" must not watch network television! Hello, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. According to the Los Angeles Times, adultery may have the biggest role on primetime. In one report, the references to cheating spouses were twice as high as the talk of marital love. It's so common, said one producer, that it's almost like "white noise." Adultery's a problem that's as old as the Bible itself. But like homosexuality, it's starting to show up a lot more frequently on TV than it does in real life. T.L. Stanley blames the culture. "Cynicism about marriage is rampant," he insists. But approval for infidelity sure isn't! Only 6% of Americans think it's morally acceptable to cheat. If that's true, then why don't steamy scenes lead to steaming viewers? Because too many of us aren't speaking up. The way to boost ratings shouldn't be adding more vulgarity--but less. So turn off your TV! If Hollywood gives us affairs to remember, we'll send them a message they won't forget. |
