Bob Schieffer, the venerable host of CBS's "Face the Nation," was surprised when I told him that business people are being forced to participate in same-sex "marriage" ceremonies against their will -- and being sued by the government if they don't.
Mr. Schieffer is not the only one who doesn't realize the impact of same-sex "marriage" laws on the average American. They will impact him, you, and your entire family.
That's why we are launching the 2013 Campaign for the American Family. Our goals are simple and clear:
- To protect the rights of traditional American families like yours from the hidden impact of the same-sex "marriage" agenda.
- To protect Christians from lawsuits, persecution, and public attack.
- To promote historic Judeo-Christian values rooted in the Bible and observed by civil societies for thousands of years.
- To assure funding for the work of the Family Research Council, the leader in the advancement of faith, family, and freedom in America.
I want to encourage you. Biblical marriage is not a lost cause in America ... unless we give up and let the same-sex activists win because we failed to stand up for what is right.
We are not haters as the same-sex lobby would have the public believe. We are not intolerant or self-righteous. We are defined and liberated by the grace of God. Jesus told us to "love your neighbor as yourself."
Jesus also said, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?" (Matt. 19:4-5). God did not create us for same-sex "marriages." We violate God's design when we take that path.
That is why no one who follows Jesus Christ can stand idly by in the face of today's unprecendented attacks on marriage. The standard is clear: marriage is between one man and one woman. Anything else is outside of God's design.
And that is why I'm asking you to give now to Family Research Council's American Family Campaign. We need to raise $3.2 million by September 30 to fund our work on behalf of America's families. This is no arbitrary date: it marks the end of our financial year and we need that amount to end the year with all of our bills paid.
If we don't reach the goal, we will have to pick and choose what issues we can afford to address. When our funding runs low -- and 2013 has been a very difficult year -- we find ourselves stepping back and reacting, being less proactive.
You can never really take back the ground that has been lost when you are reactive. We must end the year in the black!
Every dollar you give to help FRC defend your values will be matched dollar for dollar up to $300,000 -- by a few generous fellow donors who want FRC to remain proactive.
The attacks on marriage and the American family are far more insidious than you -- or a distinguished newsman like Bob Schieffer -- can imagine. But they are part of the same-sex "marriage" agenda.
With your help, FRC will challenge and counter these attacks on marriage and the American family.
Thank you for standing up for America's families!
