Starting this month, uninsured Americans have the option to purchase health insurance through their state exchanges. What you may not know is that many of the plans being offered include elective abortion coverage!
Twenty-three states have exercised their right under Obamacare to exclude abortion coverage, but for the remaining twenty-seven, that decision has been left to insurance companies. If you are receiving this alert, it is because you live in one of the states that allow elective abortion on their state exchange.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to find out which plans are pro-life and which are not. That is because of a secrecy clause in Obamacare that only allows providers to disclose elective abortion coverage "as a part of the summary of benefits and coverage explanation, at the time of enrollment" (emphasis added). Meaning it is only disclosed once, buried in a list of other benefits.
Adding another layer of difficulty to get this information, you need to first establish that you live in the state where you are seeking benefit plan information from, so not anyone can call in and inquire about whether a specific plan includes elective abortion coverage.
Without this information, many pro-lifers may be unwittingly enrolling in healthcare coverage that subsidizes abortion coverage. Bipartisan legislation has been offered that would ensure insurance plans prominently disclose whether or not they cover elective abortion. We need your help establishing how widespread this problem is.
That is where you come in. State exchanges only allow residents of their state to access plan and benefit information. If you have found out, or are willing to help find out, which Obamacare plans include elective abortion coverage and which do not, this would help us immensely in building the case to Congress for bringing transparency to the potential subsidization of tens of thousands of abortions.
