Meriam Ibrahim is free, and your petition signature played a small part ensuring her release. You've probably heard that the 27 year-old Sudanese mother who refused to recant her faith in Christ is now out of Sudan where her and her family's lives were in danger. She and her family arrived safely in Italy en route to the U.S.
I want to thank you for helping to make this possible. By signing our petition to urge the U.S. State Department to action in Meriam's case, you helped us keep the issue alive when Sudanese officials were looking to see if the initial American reaction to the situation would subside.
On Wednesday, when I was asked to testify before a Congressional committee on the matter, I reminded the members of the committee that religious freedom is a fundamental, inherent, and international human right. It is also a core American ideal -- an ideal that we should defend at home and abroad. Because indifference to religious persecution abroad can only lead to greater religious intolerance here at home.
Again, thank you for your willingness to stand for those who have no voice. We at FRC will continue to stand here in Washington D.C. for our first freedom - the freedom of religion and the freedom to follow Jesus Christ.
We're glad you're standing with us.
