WASHINGTON, D.C. – Family Research Council has announced its intent to score in favor of this afternoon’s vote in the Senate to move to the Continuing Resolution.
Congressional investigations have been convened to consider allegations of Planned Parenthood’s scavenging and sale of babies’ body parts. This measure would place a moratorium on federal funding of PPFA for one year, while reallocating $235 million for women’s health to Federally Qualified Health Centers. These centers provide more comprehensive care than does PPFA, and outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics by a ratio of 20:1.
Family Research Council’s President Tony Perkins made the following statement about this legislation:
“When the House took up the vote on H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, Family Research Council supported the measure, but also pushed for it to be attached to must-pass legislation. The allegations against Planned Parenthood Federation of America are so disturbing that it behooves Congress to make every effort to protect taxpayers from having to fund the largest abortion provider in America. Planned Parenthood is being investigated for serious criminal offenses including possible violations of the federal ban on partial-birth abortion and the killing of babies born alive.
“We are in full support of this moratorium during ongoing investigations, and are grateful that Senate Leadership has responded to our urging to attach a defunding or moratorium measure to must-pass legislation,” concluded Perkins.
