News Correspondent

Responsible for implementing FRC communications strategy. This role is responsible for producing, reporting, and writing on breaking news, stories, and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications, and 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. The News Correspondent position requires a strong working knowledge of news issues relevant to the mission of FRC. Strong organizational and administrative skills; and excellent written and oral communication skills are also required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and experience with Excel is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with related media experience and knowledge of pro-family policy issues. Experience in producing a Tv/radio program is ideal. Ability to take initiative and work under deadlines and pressure.The successful candidate will also have the following qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in on-air reporting and ability to ad-lib in breaking news situations
  • Strong working knowledge of network news production processes
  • Proficient in new and emerging social media platforms
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or willingness to learn
  • Excellent, network-level writing and producing skills for broadcast and digital media
  • Excellent research and editorial skills with ability to write a news package
  • Strong interviewing and on camera skills
  • Excellent ability to analyze complex issues and present them in a compelling, redemptive manner
  • Ability to tell engaging stories on a wide variety of topics
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to cultivate necessary contacts and relationships crucial to producing great journalism
  • Flexible with proven ability to multitask and flourish in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills with ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and be an effective member of a team
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel
