Job Summary
This position will be the primary on-air reporter/anchor for a daily 5-minute news report on a national network which is dedicated to reporting news from a biblical, Christian worldview. The work includes planning and developing content around the day’s top stories and assigned themes. The show is produced for radio, digital, YouTube and other streaming options. It requires research and verification of news and information, providing on-time daily delivery in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The news segment is normally pre-recorded but may be live if/when breaking news. This position may serve as a ‘live’ guest interview for the national program from time to time.
This position also gives specific focus to video or audio content to communicate the news to a conservative news outlet, as well as related social media accounts, and podcasts. Duties may include pre-recording video or audio news reports or features. This position may also be called upon to help promote conservative news content via social media.
As a voice for the organization, this position helps to ensure all content meets high standards for journalistic integrity and quality to provide compelling programming and service to listeners and viewers on all platforms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
♦ ON-AIR NEWS. Responsible to anchor a 5-minute pre-recorded news segment at the start of a national radio show, which, after the news, discusses current issues from a conservative Christian perspective. The focus of the news segment is to report on national news and events pertinent to the day.
♦ RESEARCH & VERIFY. Research, gather and evaluate current news and events based on daily theme and news assignments; frame the story in cooperation with the communication/production team; verify facts and information.
♦ DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS & SOURCES. Develop relationships and news sources.
♦ IMPROVE ON-AIR PERFORMANCE. Report the news on-air at a network-quality level, with a commitment to continuously improving on-air performance.
♦ ENSURE ON-TIME DELIVERY. Handle assigned aspects of pre-production, studio and/or post-production of news program segments, as may be assigned. Deliver completed and approved news segments on time (generally pre-recorded, occasionally live when breaking news.)
♦ ALIGN WITH MISSION & VALUES. Present timely, relevant, and journalistically sound news that informs the news audience while keeping the organization’s mission and core values in mind.
♦ DIGITAL & SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT. Conduct compelling on-camera news segments and host coverage of assigned news events with other hosts/anchors/guests for use on the organization’s digital and social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, etc. Takes ownership over all content she/he delivers from the news desk. Create/host podcasts as assigned with goal of increasing organization’s presence in podcast space
♦ ON-AIR GUEST. Be available as a live guest/field reporter if scheduled live guest is not available.
♦ DAILY MESSAGING MEETING. Participate in the daily messaging meeting to identify the themes and focus for the day’s show.
♦ KEEP UP WITH NEWS & CURRENT EVENTS. Keep current of relevant news, national events and politics related to the mission of the organization.
♦ AMBASSADOR for THE ORGANIZATION. Represent the organization at media functions or on media itself as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required
♦ Bachelor’s degree related to broadcasting, communications, journalism, media communications, social media, political science, public policy, public administration, or a related degree is required.
♦ Solid journalistic skills and professional appearance with a strong network-level on-air/on-camera presence and reporting skills for broadcast and digital media. Must have a sample on-camera portfolio A minimum of 1-year of experience is required.
♦ Must have a finger on the pulse of current news events & trends; knowledge of national and international news with the ability to present current news and complex issues in a compelling, redemptive manner. Requires an understanding of biblical worldview and familiarity with Christian audiences and their values. Preference will be given to applicants with related news media experience and knowledge of pro-family policy issues.
♦ Excellent time management and organizational skills; flexible with the ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
♦ Self-motivated with high energy level and the ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team.
♦ Working knowledge in the fields of broadcast journalism, including digital and social media trends; Must have a working knowledge of the network news production process.
♦ Strong interpersonal skills with ability to cultivate necessary contacts and develop relationships crucial to producing great journalism.
♦ Must have a vibrant and growing Christian faith. Requires a whole-hearted belief in and understanding of the mission and strategic direction of the organization.
♦ Able to travel and keep flexible hours as needed; may occasionally work nights or weekends.
