WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council will hold a joint lecture by two experts on family rights and homeschooling tomorrow in Washington, D.C.
The lecture comes as German citizens, the Romeikes, are appealing their denial of asylum by the federal government. The family requested asymlum because of persecution by the German school system for homeschooling their children, which included police intervention. This family believes the German educational system teaches children values contrary to the Christian ones they hold dear. Consequently, the family has been denied the right to teach their own children. The Romeikes are hoping to remain in theUnited States, where they can educate their children according to the dictates of their convictions.
The lecture, entitled "Should the State Raise your Kids?", will take place at FRC's D.C. headquarters and can be viewed online. It will cover the repercussions of this case and how it affects not only homeschoolers but advocates of religious freedom everywhere. Speaking will be:
Michael Donnelly, director of international affairs and a staff attorney for member affairs for the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). He is an adjunct professor at Patrick Henry College. He earned his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law.
Daniel Blomberg, who serves as legal counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. Before joining Becket, he clerked for Chief Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and, before that, served as litigation counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom. Daniel earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
