Aaron Klein to Join Washington Watch with Tony Perkins this evening

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Family Research Council (FRC) responded today to an order by Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian demanding $135,000 from Aaron and Melissa Klein, the bakers who declined to make a same-sex wedding cake.  The order also includes a gag order against the Kleins.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement:

“An order of this magnitude is not only unprecedented, but unconstitutional.  As the smoke starts to clear from the Supreme Court’s marriage ruling, this case makes an important point: the Left’s goal is not now, nor has it ever been, merely marriage.  What every American can now see at the Supreme Court is not a finish line, but the beginning of a struggle for our basic freedoms.

“The gag order demonstrates that this assault on our most essential freedoms will not stop with the free exercise of our religion.  It has quickly become a threat to the freedom of speech as well.

"The only crime committed by people like Aaron and Melissa is exercising the very freedoms America just celebrated.  That’s why legislation like the First Amendment Defense Act is so urgently needed.

"A government capable of bankrupting and silencing people for standing by their deepest beliefs is a government of unbridled power and a threat to everyone's freedom,” concluded Perkins.

This evening at 5:05 PM ET, Aaron Klein will appear on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins to discuss the fine and gag order. Listen online at www.tonyperkins.com
