Shrouded in secrecy, North Korea remains one of the world’s most mysterious countries. Unfortunately, what we do know about the “hermit kingdom” indicates the country is one of the world’s worst abusers of human rights, including the right to religious freedom. The North Korean regime has engaged in an intense crackdown on religion for decades. Today, few religious believers remain, and those who do face grave peril.
The regime’s secretive nature makes it difficult for American leaders to address these human rights issues. But the gravity of the situation calls on Western countries to take every action possible to relieve the suffering of the North Korean people, who cannot speak for themselves.
