While the U.S. Senate made history on Friday with Neil Gorsuch's confirmation, FRC made a little of its own. For the first time in the organization's history, we welcomed a sitting vice president to speak. At an event in D.C. for FRC supporters, we were proud to welcome Mike Pence to a podium he occupied so many times as a member of the House. But this time was different. Together with men and women who are deeply invested in our movement, we had a chance to applaud a man who is greatly influencing the president for our values.
"Tony was kind enough to let me know you were in the neighborhood and I decided just to walk over and say thank you on behalf of the 45th President of the United States... It's very humbling to stand before you today because of your prayers and the confidence of the president as vice president of the United States of America, and I thank you for the privilege you've given me... In the last 24 hours, the president has welcomed the president of China to our country... and last night, the world witnessed the decision I saw this president make late yesterday afternoon, when President Trump took decisive and proportionate action to respond to the horrific chemical attack perpetrated by the Assad regime... and just over an hour ago, I got to sit in the chair as president of the Senate where we saw President Trump keep his word to appoint a strict constructionist to the Supreme Court in the late great tradition of Antonin Scalia... and I promise you Justice Neil Gorsuch will be faithful to our Constitution and he will uphold the God-given liberties that are enshrined in our Bill of Rights. I tell you, I look at today -- and every day since the advent of this administration -- and I just couldn't be more proud to be vice president to President Donald Trump."
As he shifted to the long list of priorities still waiting the Trump-Pence team, the vice president reassured everyone that the rewrites to the House's health care plan were coming along. "The time has come to end Obamacare. Let's repeal and replace Obamacare once and for all. And my speechwriter here said, 'we need you to keep fighting.' But this is FRC, and I don't have to ask you. I mean, I've seen the determination of men and women in this room to stand up for traditional values... and I just wanted to pay a debt of gratitude and say thank you. Thank you on behalf of the President of the United States and thank you on behalf of my family."
