Take Action: Help stop funding of sex-reassignment efforts in military

A couple of weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2018 ("NDAA") without incorporating a policy that ensures that limited military resources are not be used for sex-reassignment surgery and other gender transition efforts for service members. This week, the House will vote on the Make America Secure Appropriations Act, which will provide a large increase in funding for the Department of Defense ("DOD").

Taxpayer dollars need to be protected from funding sex-change surgery and hormone therapy efforts intended to change a person's gender, which are non-essential. Estimates for these efforts, including the amount of time lost for the transition process, are about $3.7 billion over the next ten years. This is an irresponsible use of taxpayer funds.

With the costs estimated for sex-reassignment surgery and hormones, the military could purchase twenty-two F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Planes, which cost $166.7 million each, or 116 Chinook Helicopters, which cost $31.8 million each, or 3,700 Tomahawk missiles, which are $1 million each, or a new Destroyer for the Navy, which would be about $3.5 billion. Spending billions of dollars on sex-reassignment surgeries and hormones when the military has other priorities that would actually ensure its effectiveness in war, and America's safety is irresponsible. President Trump Prioritizes Military over Obama Era Transgender Policy

"The last thing we should be doing is diverting billions of dollars from mission-critical training to something as controversial as gender reassignment surgery. However, the cost to readiness, recruitment, retention, morale and cohesion would have been even greater under the Obama policy. As our nation faces serious national security threats, our troops shouldn't be forced to endure hours of transgender 'sensitivity' classes and politically-correct distractions like this one." -Tony Perkins, FRC President

Abortion Activists are Still Trying to Put David Daleiden in Jail for Exposing Planned Parenthood

by Tony Perkins

Tony Perkins is President of Family Research Council. This article appeared in Life News on June 21, 2017. If abortion groups are trying to keep a low profile, they’re not doing a very good job of it. While Congress debates whether taxpayers should fund the likes of Planned Parenthood, the industry has spent the last six months trying to avoid headlines. That will be impossible now, thanks to a federal judge who’s threatening to send the man responsible for exposing the grisly business to jail. At issue now is whether ... (more)

Trump, Congress Should Halt Transgender Military Policy that Costs Billions

by Peter Sprigg

Peter Sprigg is Senior Fellow for Family Policy Studies at Family Research Council. This article appeared in Townhall on June 30, 2017. Last year, without any systematic study of the consequences, the Obama administration reversed longstanding policies that excluded those who identify as transgender, on both psychological and medical grounds, from serving in the U.S. military. The armed services immediately stopped discharging existing service members who suffer from gender dysphoria (unhappiness with their biological sex at birth). Phase ... (more)

The Decay of Liberty and the Rule of Law in 21st Century America

by Peter Johnston

Ideas have consequences. When walking through a law library in Cambridge, Mass., as I did with my son a number of years ago, one comes across an arresting inscription: “OF LAW THERE CAN BE NO LESSE ACKNOWLEDGED THAN THAT HER SEATE IS THE BOSOME OF GOD, Bishop Hooker, Ecclesiastical Politie, 1st Booke, p. 94 (1604).” This inscription is found in the Langdell Reading Room of the law library at Harvard University, whose motto is “Veritas,” the Latin word for “truth.” As we will explore, the concept of the law ...
