FRC's Ken Blackwell to Congress: 'Pull the Plug on Obamacare, the American People are With You'

TROY, OHIO - Family Research Council Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell will join Tea Party and pro-family leaders and activists for a rally in Troy, Ohio. The rally, entitled "Pull the Plug on Obamacare Before He Pulls the Plug on You," will call on Congress to defund President Obama's signature 2010 healthcare law.

Blackwell, former Ohio Secretary of State, made the following comments:

"Citizens in every one of the 435 congressional districts in the country should take a stand against this economically destructive government-controlled healthcare program. We can defund this bad healthcare program now - or pay the price for the rest of our lives.

"President Obama's decision to give employers a break, but not individuals, from being subject to Obamacare this year is wrong. Even Obamacare architect Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) has now called Obamacare a 'train wreck.' Surely Congress can at least act to ensure that ordinary Americans have the same protections the Obama administration has given big business.

"We call on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democrats to join us in our effort to protect individuals in the same way that corporations are being protected. Instead of simply caving to corporate interests, Senate Democrats should stand up for the American people and alleviate the burden of the individual mandate.

"We urge Congress to defund Obamacare to stop increased costs from hitting Americans' health plans. Defunding would also stop government funding of abortion.

"Congress must also act to protect religious freedom, our first freedom, from the Health and Human Services mandate that people of faith, including employers, pay for health plans that include sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs. Obama's administration is creating a two-tier religious caste system: Houses of worship are exempt, but if you are a non-profit like Wheaton College, or Ohio's Franciscan University, or if you are a business that has values, like the 30 Hobby Lobby stores in Ohio, or Conestoga Wood, Inc., then you are forced to comply with the HHS mandate, even if it violates your religious beliefs.

"We must work together to encourage and support those in Congress who will defend our freedoms. We are here to send a message to Congress: Pull the plug on Obamacare. The American people are with you."
