Prayer Targets: 'None of these Diseases,' Obamacare, ENDA, Secularism
October 30, 2013
If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD... I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. Ex 15:26
Dear Praying Friends,
Missionary physician Dr. S.I. McMillen wrote his bestselling classic, None of These Diseases in 1963. His grandson, David E. Stern, M.D., helped modernize the book in 2000, updating statistics and adjusting language to connect with a younger audience. Dr. McMillen proves Psalm 33:12, that with respect to health, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."
Raised in the royal court, [Moses] "was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians" (Acts 7:22). No doubt, he knew and used the Egyptian remedies. Moses had been steeped in these infection-spreading practices. Who would expect Moses to make breakthroughs in epidemic prevention? Yet Moses recorded an unlikely promise to the ancient Hebrews: If you give careful attention to the voice of the Lord your God, do what is right in his sight, give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you (Ex 15:26). "None of these diseases!" What a promise! For centuries epidemics had killed thousands of Egyptians and Hebrews. Ancient treatments rarely helped. Often the "cure" was worse than the disease....
God then gave Moses many health rules, filling a whole section of the Bible... If Moses had yielded to his natural tendency to add even a little of his "higher education," the Bible would contain such prescriptions as "urine of a faithful wife" or "blood of a worm."... Moses recorded hundreds of health regulations but not a single [contemporary] medical misconception. [Millions] have died through the centuries, however, because doctors ignored the biblical rules... When doctors read and tried these guidelines, they quickly discovered how to [for instance] prevent the spread of epidemics... we are still benefiting from God's 3,500-year-old instructions...
[Moses' Egyptian professors] also promised "none of these diseases." But Egypt's mummies are riddled with diseases... Did he [Moses] provide the Hebrews with a spell to stop epidemics? Read his ancient prescription: "As long as he has leprosy... he must live alone outside the camp" (Lev. 13:46)... not even a trace of superstition. This ancient order clearly states the modern concept of quarantine. One historian notes, "The laws against leprosy in Leviticus 13 may be regarded as the first model of a sanitary legislation." Indeed, the biblical method makes a radical break from all ancient concepts of disease... Moses claimed to have received these teachings directly from God (McMillen, Stern, None of These Diseases: The Bible's Health Secrets for the 21st Century). (Ed. Note: The book is filled with reflections on God-given "breakthroughs.")
Biblical faith is the beginning of real hope and change for America. Big government will only stunt the advance of medical science we have enjoyed. As Americans trade our trust in God for the state, we are facing dangerous days ahead.
Obamacare - Just Getting Worse! - In a single morning last week, the headlines on some of America's leading news sites were: More states warn against Obamacare fraud; SICK: Seniors lose their doctors; Zero enrollments in Oregon; Premiums double in Wisconsin; School District Hit with $6M in New Costs; Sebelius: 'Don't believe what you've heard'; 10 Senate Dems demand delay; POLL: Most Americans support Delay; PROPOSED LAW: 'If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It Act'; DNC: Obamacare will help Dems in '14; COMEDIAN SENATOR: Website 'Improving Every Day'; REPORT: Disaster set in motion before 2012 re-elect...
Today, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was questioned by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Pro-life groups conducted a "Tweetfest," calling for an end to the deceptive HHS requirement that insurance providers notify customers that their premiums will be used to pay for abortion only after they have purchased it. Yesterday, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), top Republican on the Senate Health Committee, called for Sebelius to resign. Last week, ten Senate Democrats called for the Obamacare enrollment period to be extended. Forbes reports that 13 major insurance company heads met privately with President Obama asking him to delay the rollout and fix the problems. Needless to say, the problems have affected their business.
More and more Americans are seeing that the Obamacare website rollout problems are just the tip of the iceberg. The complicated law, like computer code, has 2,500 pages (381,517 words) and even more administrative regulations (11,588,500 words) written by unelected bureaucrats led by political appointees. These facts are undeniable! It is a massive seizure of 17% of the economy, a coercive redistribution of wealth, a myriad of lies, arm-twisting and political bribes employed to rob millions of the healthcare they preferred. Many doctors plan to retire or otherwise not participate (which will produce a shortage of doctors and long waiting lines), and as the law takes effect it will likely lead to economic ruin for many small businesses and working families. They cannot pay far higher premiums, coercive fines and penalties, expanded powers for an already politicized IRS, violation of individual conscience and religious liberties, compulsory taxpayer funding of abortion, shocking waste and incompetence, violation of common sense principles of finance and economics (borrowing, spending, enslavement of future generations), and more. (See Regulations, Senate Democrats, Resign, Insurance Heads call for Fix, Delay, Revenge is Tweet, 16 Million; Obamacare Apologetics, Awakening).
- God is hearing our prayers! Pray that the American people will continue to awaken, and that Pastors and churches will do their part to lead the way. Who knows if the threat of Obamacare, together with other things big government is doing, will lead to a new receptivity to the gospel, a new turning to God and a spiritual awakening that leads to all kinds of godly change? (Est 4:14; Ps 20:6-8; Is 28:17-18; 60:1-3; Eph 5:14)
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) will be brought to the Senate Floor as early as next week. ENDA will impact private and public employers and workplaces like the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell impacted the U.S. Military. Military leaders and chaplains are now caught in crises of religious conscience over elevating homosexual rights above religious liberty. Christian service personnel are bearing the brunt. Employers and employees will similarly be required to give special treatment to LGBT employees. This law would mandate the employment of homosexual, bisexual and "transgendered" individuals in inappropriate occupations, disregarding the fact that sexual conduct may be relevant to employment. ENDA would open America's businesses to a host of lawsuits and, I predict, more anti-Christian bias in business, just as is now happening in the military (see Soon, Military).
- May ENDA, first introduced in 1996, be decisively defeated. May deceptive and inadequate religious liberty amendments not distract Congressmen from taking a principled stand on the issue. May God intervene to prevent furtherance of this law, which would plant homosexuality even more deeply into the fabric of our society. Bring millions who need Christ into His kingdom, including those involved in sexual sins, both homosexual and heterosexual (Josh 1:7; Ps 85:6; Is 10:1; 59: all; 64:1-9; 1 Tim 1:9).
Finally, when I refer to God's warnings of judgment for sin, I am always mindful that all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Each of us must come to receive His grace the very same way: through the shed blood of Jesus at the foot of His cross. Apart from Jesus, we are all under judgment. May God, yet again, shed his grace on America!
I urge you all to watch Larry Taunton's special lecture at FRC today: Stand and Shine: Combating Secularism in the Public Square. You'll be glad you did. Thank you so very much for your prayers!
