Our soul waiteth for the LORD: He is our help and our shield. Ps 33:20

Dear Praying Friends,

In 1991, as the U.S. planned to engage Iraq in the first Gulf War, Pastor David Wilkerson, founder of Times Square Church and Teen Challenge, known for his bold biblical warnings to the American Church, share a memorable thought. America's overwhelming military power had given many Americans a false sense of security. Wilkerson asked aloud whether God would go with our armies, given the national sin of abortion and the blood of millions' of innocent unborn children on American hands? He was unsure. But he concluded that if God gave our armies success, it would be because of His promise to bless those who bless His ancient covenant people and their land (Gen 12).

The godly leaders of ancient Israel inquired of God before going to war (Judges 1:1-2). We learn from the experience of Joshua, that the sin of just one soldier, led to a major military defeat (Josh 7:11-12). Only repentance and bringing the guilty soldier to justice restored God's favor.

Since 1991, America has continued to defend the practice of abortion and has expanded its transgressions: legalizing homosexuality and other sexual aberrations; defiling the sacred institution of marriage; even rewarding same-sex partners with taxpayer funded spousal benefits. Parts of the U.S. military have been co-opted by the homosexual agenda, and are punishing Christian servicemen who voice their religious beliefs on the matter. With such moral confusion, is it any wonder that Christians still ask whether God will go with our armies?

Prayer & Fasting - Yesterday, the Awakening America Alliance observed CRY OUT AMERICA! Believers gathered at county courthouses and other public places to cry out to God for America's salvation. Intercessors for America also launched NationalDayofRepentance.org and are urging believers both to cry out to God, and to continue to pray and fast over the next 21 days. Every believer is welcome and encouraged to participate.

  • May God hear the cries of His people during the weeks ahead! May we stand in the gap and invoke God's mercy, not His judgment. May He help us and our leaders to repent; cleanse and strengthen our armies, and keep his gracious hand of protection upon us! (1 Sam 8:18; 2 Chr 7:14; Ps 50:14-17; 59:16-17; 86:5-7; Jer 20:11-13; Joel 2:12-18).

Planned Military Action Against Syria - Congress has put off a vote on President Obama's intended strike against Syria for crossing the "red line" (i.e., using chemical weapons) he drew in a speech months ago. In his speech Tuesday night, the President presented his case for a strike. He suddenly closed by saying the "threat of U.S. military action," "constructive talks" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia's "willingness to join with the international community in pushing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to give up his chemical weapons," and al-Assad's promise to join the U.N.'s "Chemical Weapons Convention," would allow the U.S. to postpone any vote on military action. His plan would not have survived a Congressional vote. Christian leaders within Syria have pled with the U.S. not to carry out the President's threat, which would be disproportionately costly to the Christians, already being abused and murdered by al-Qaeda and other Islamist rebels (see Obama Rescues al-Assad, Gaffe to Policy, His Real Thoughts, Obama Speech Text, Where Congress Stands, Tony Perkins, Dr. Ben Carson, Iran/Syria/U.S. Military, Christians in Syria).

  • May God use this new action plan to stabilize the conflict and reduce the bloodshed in Syria! May the slaughter of Christians by Islamist rebels be ended and may a future Syria protect religious liberty. (Dt 19:10-1er 22:3; Ps 56:1-9; Dan 11:32-36; Jn 10:10).

Constitution Day, Obamacare and Religious Liberty - On Tuesday (9-10-13), thousands of Tea Party and conservative activists rallied in Washington. Many visited their elected representatives to encourage them to be unyielding in their determination to defund Obamacare. Attorney and FRC Senior Fellow Cathy Ruse spoke at the rally. Defunding Obamacare and preventing Planned Parenthood and other "Navigators" from enrolling unverified participants as fast as they can, starting Oct. 1, is of first importance. Once enrollment begins and the program gets underway, experts believe that Obamacare will never be stopped. We must pray and make sure our elected representatives stand strong!

Also Tuesday night, Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.), founder of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, led an hour-long religious liberty "special order" in the House of Representatives, anticipating the 226th anniversary of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17. Forbes was joined by caucus members: Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.), Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Rob Wittman (R-Va.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), John Fleming (R-La.), Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), Louis Gohmert (R-Texas), and Steve Pearce (R- N.M.). They outlined current violations of "our first freedom," religious liberty, among them the Obamacare HHS mandate (See these Congressional Religious Liberty Champions (scroll to 52:05 - 1:49:15); read Congressional Quarterly Transcript).

  • May God stir people His people to righteous action and move Congress to stop Obamacare, with its oppression, abortion, and socialistic, anti-liberty scheme! May God mightily use the 90+ member strong Prayer Caucus to help restore religious liberty in America! (Dt 26:7-8 ; Josh 8:3; 10:7-10; Ps 27:8; 110:3; Mt 10:16; Eph 6:10-20; Rev 12:11)

Believers asked to Defend Persecuted Christians in the U.S. Military - The persecution continues to accelerate. Senior Master Sergeant Phillip Monk was read his Miranda rights at Lackland Air Force Base, after he publically reported his relief from duty in June for disagreeing with his openly lesbian commanding officer, Maj. Elisa Valenzuela's assertion that a subordinate's expressed opposition to same-sex "marriage" constituted discrimination. SMSgt. Monk filed a petition for redress with Valenzuela under the UCMJ (Article 138). Now, he is under investigation for making false official statements (UCMJ 107) for stating publicly and to the press that he believed he was being discriminated against due to his Christian beliefs. FRC Executive Vice President, Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (Ret.-USA) believes these official statements are, in fact, trumped up charges and an effort to intimidate all believers in the U.S. Military. He believes the Air Force is saying to Christian servicemen and women: "If you are a target of religious discrimination, you must remain silent about it or risk court martial" (Please pray and sign the petition to Acting Secretary of the Air Force Eric Fanning).

Hawaii Same-Sex "Marriage" Effort - It was concern about an effort in Hawaii to legalize same-sex "marriage" that motivated Congress in 1996 to pass the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Providentially, the Church in Hawaii arose and stopped the island effort, but DOMA passed, giving states some sense of security that such a legal aberration would not be forced on them. Despite having a new law providing for civil unions there, Governor Neil Abercrombie has called for a special Legislative Session for a vote to legalize same-sex "marriage" in Hawaii (see Story).

  • May God stir the Hawaiian Church to act yet again and to prevail over the forces of darkness! (2 Kg 13:15-19; 2 Cor 10:3-6; Gal 6:9; Eph 5:11-18; 2 Th 3:13).

Finally, Floyd Corkins, who was inspired by the Southern Poverty Law Center's (SPLC) website to target FRC for mayhem and murder, will be sentenced Thursday, September 19th. Corkins shot FRC Building Manager Leo Johnson in August 2012 and intended to kill many more FRC staff had Johnson not subdued him. Corkins pled guilty to three criminal counts, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and domestic terrorism. Please pray that Corkins' sentence will be just (see Prosecutors want 45 years; Defense Seeks 11 1/2 year Limit). Thank you for praying!
