WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Jeremy Schossau, Pastor of Metro City Church in Michigan, appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Jeremy shared about the threats he has received after announcing a church event available for young women struggling with thoughts on identity and sexuality. Two Michigan state legislators are demanding a state investigation into the church.
Pastor Jeremy explained to Tony what questioning kids are being told and the pressure being placed on them, "The answer overwhelmingly from the gay community is that they are 'born that way,' and so there is no alternative. So, the assumption is that every single kid who is questioning their sexual identity is gay, or should be gay, or will end up gay. And, I think that is crazy." Jeremy added, "Before we went on the air I received a text message from one of the young ladies who's involved with this workshop we've been putting on and she said that we saved her life -- literally that she was suicide-minded before beginning the discussions with us and she was just overwhelmed by the 'peer pressure to be gay, to be a lesbian.' And, we provided her hope that she wasn't necessarily gay, that she doesn't have to make any of these decisions when she's thirteen-years-old, that she can slow this sexual thought down and that just because you struggle, or just because your friends say that you are, doesn't make you gay."
The pastor responded to Michigan state legislators demanding a state investigation, saying, “We are not going anywhere Tony. We will love anybody who walks through our doors. We will not condemn anybody but we will not back down from what Jesus tells us,” concluded Schossau.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, and host of Washington Watch, added, “What you were doing was simply saying 'hey this is so prevalent in our society, this discussion is happening on TV, it's happening in sitcoms, it's happening in our schools. As the church we just want to provide Biblical answers to the questions you might have. And if you want to come, you can come, and we're here for you.'”
“I want to commend you for not backing down in the face of opposition and speaking truth... We applaud you, we thank you and we stand with you," concluded Perkins.
