FRC Joins Capitol Hill News Conference in Urging HHS, Congress to Act Following GAO Report on Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

Washington, D.C. - Today, Arina Grossu, Family Research Council's Director of the Center for Human Dignity spoke at a news conference in support of the "No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion and the "Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2014," saying:

"President Obama promised back in September 2009, 'Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.'  The groundbreaking GAO report reveals that federal dollars are being used to subsidize abortions in Obamacare exchange plans.

"The leadership of HHS should be made to explain before the American people, why 1,036 Obamacare exchange plans cover elective abortion at the expense of taxpayer funds?  We were promised that Obamacare would not subsidize abortion.

"Women want good healthcare.  Healthcare 'choice' under Obamacare is a farce: the choice for pro-life plans is either very limited or non-existent in at least 8 states.

"Now is the time for transparency. The GAO report revealed: 11 of the 18 issuers they called admitted that consumers don't have access to information about elective abortion coverage.

"We call on Congress to vote for H.R. 7. 'No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion' and the 'Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act.'

"The American people deserve real answers, real options, real transparency and absolutely no taxpayer funding of abortion," concluded Grossu.
