WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Family Research Council is disappointed by a Texas federal court’s decision to rule against the state’s dismemberment abortion ban, a law that prohibited unborn children from being brutally torn apart and killed.
David Christensen, Vice President of Government Affairs at the Family Research Council, released the following statement:
“The legislation struck down today is a dangerous precedent set by the court. This particularly gruesome abortion procedure in which an abortionist literally rips off the limbs of a living unborn baby and crushes her skull inside the womb, may now be practiced in the state of Texas.
“A dismemberment abortion is dangerous to not just the child, but the mother. The sharp instruments used and the baby’s sharp bone fragments can damage the woman’s reproductive and neighboring organs. Also, infection from baby body parts left behind in the mother’s womb, excessive bleeding, preterm birth or miscarriage in a subsequent pregnancy, and maternal death, are all possible risks from this procedure.
“We congratulate A.G. Paxton on appealing this miscarriage of justice, and trust this case will continue to shed light on the truth of the cruelty of this barbaric practice,” concluded Christensen.
