WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Oklahoma Senator James Lankford appeared on a Religious Freedom Day edition of Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. The special program also streamed live on Facebook.

Sen. Lankford discussed the state of religious freedom in America today, noting "It’s a really odd season for us. Religious freedom and the free expression of your faith has been a given throughout American history. And now for some reason people of our country and in this cultural time are becoming afraid of faith and afraid of people of faith… We’ve always been a nation that you could not only have a faith but you could live your faith.”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, added, "This is one area where the United Nations actually got it right with their 1948 Declaration of Human Rights, in which they recognized religious freedom is not an idea just for the western world, it is a human right. That was driven by the leadership of the United States. And I’m hopeful that America is going to restore its leadership position on religious liberty worldwide." concluded Perkins.
