WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Family Research Council's David Closson, along with co-authors Denny Burk and Colin Smothers released a new book Male & Female He Created Them: A Study on Gender, Sexuality & Marriage from Christian Focus Publications. Closson also serves as FRC's Director of the Center for Biblical Worldview.
Male & Female He Created Them is a study on gender, sexuality, and marriage. Authored by Burk, Closson and Smothers, this study presents a biblical vision for contested issues such as homosexuality, transgenderism, and marriage. With these issues clearly arising more and more in culture, media, and politics, what better time for Christians to grasp more deeply what they are about? With this new resource, readers will have a better grasp on the Bible's teaching about our identities as male and female, created in the image of God, and know how to apply Scripture to these issues in their ministries at church, home, and work.
As part of the study, readers have access to supplemental videos by Dr. Albert Mohler (The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary president), Dr. Heath Lambert (First Baptist Church Jacksonville senior pastor), Rev. HB Charles (Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church senior pastor), Dr. Christopher Yuan (author), Dr. Rosaria Butterfield (author), and others that expand and elaborate the themes of each chapter.
Tony Perkins, FRC president, released the following statement on the book:
"God calls us to think biblically about everything, including sexuality, and I'm grateful for this resource and how it equips Christians to think faithfully on these contested issues."
David Closson, co-author of Male & Female He Created Them, commented:
"The heart behind this study is helping Christians think faithfully around the issues that have taken our culture, and many of our churches, by storm. Our hope is that readers will be equipped to think biblically about marriage, sexuality, and transgenderism. We will also want to provide guidance on specific questions related to 'preferred pronouns,' identity, intersex-conditions, and other matters that our churches must be discipling their members to respond to with love and biblical conviction."
Denny Burk, co-author of the book and president of the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, commented:
"It is our aim in this study to help God's people think God's thoughts after Him on marriage, sexuality, and gender. We wish to bring the message of the Bible to bear upon some of the most contested issues of our time. And we want readers to know the glorious gospel of Christ who loves us and gave Himself for us."
Co-author Colin Smothers, and executive director of the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, also commented:
"In the aftermath of the sexual revolution, and in the midst of a successive LGBT wave, our world today is confused when it comes to gender, sexuality, and marriage. This reality explains why one of the most frequent requests we get at the offices of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) is for a curriculum that helps the church think biblically about these issues. Until today, we did not have a resource to recommend, which is why I am glad this study is available now. It is my prayer that the church will be edified through it to the glory of God and the good of our neighbors."
