WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Family Research Council (FRC) president Tony Perkins sat down for an interview Wednesday with the new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson (R-La.). The interview aired this afternoon on FRC's nationally syndicated program, Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, which broadcasts every weekday on DIRECTV, nearly 100 Christian TV stations, various streaming channels, and more than 800 radio stations across the country.
In the interview, Johnson shared how his faith influences his life and his new role as House Speaker. Johnson said in part:
"[Nothing happens by chance,] Scripture is very clear about that. And if you are a Bible believing Christian, you know that God is the one that raises up people in authority, and He sets down others and He is sovereign. And so, understanding that is actually very liberating...He says, 'My burden is light' because, you know, if you're doing your best, as flawed as you are, to operate in accordance with God's principles and to do what is right and good for the people, then God blesses that. And it takes the responsibility in some measure off your shoulders. As John Quincy Adams famously said, 'Duty is ours. Results are God's.'"
