Chemical abortion (often called by the more palliative name “medication abortion”) is exceedingly risky because at least part of the abortion takes place at home, not in a clinic. Chemical abortions can cause extensive physical trauma to women, including severe bleeding, infection, retained fetal parts, the need for emergency surgery, and even death. Family Research Council is opposed to chemical abortion, the morning after pill (Plan B), and other abortifacients that can negatively impact women’s health and safety.
